In the 90s until the 2000s the trend was for extra thin eyebrows. The women then waxed them excessively to obtain very thin lines above their eyes. We still remember celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera or even Megan Fox who convinced us to do the same. Back then, we had no limits with our tweezers. And if this beauty trend tends to come back, few women really dare to do so. For good reason, it is difficult to go back. By plucking our eyebrows too much, they come to no longer grow back.
Now, women prefer to have full eyebrows. Also, the natural is what is most valued. Thus, the techniques of microblading (a semi-permanent tattoo of the eyebrows imitating hair) or even brow lift (fixing the eyebrows upwards for a bushy effect) have appeared and are enjoying great success. Finally, another method reputed to be effective but much more expensive: the eyebrow transplant. Little practiced because requiring cosmetic surgery, some celebrities do not hesitate. Lately, Chrissy Teigen fell for this innovative method. An experience that she has been sharing for several months on Instagram with her community.
Eyebrow transplant: the procedure
Sometimes showing up without makeup, with a natural face, the wife of John Legend still had beautiful eyebrows. These were just a bit short. So, the star made them up to make them look fuller and longer. In order to permanently obtain a perfect and very natural eyebrow line, Chrissy Teigen decided to go through the eyebrow transplant process in November 2021.
But what is an eyebrow transplant really? It is in fact an operation of plastic surgery performed exclusively by a doctor. Under local anesthesia, he takes hair from the back of the scalp and then transplants them one by one to the eyebrow area. A long procedure requiring approximately 4 hours of work. It then takes several months to obtain the final results. “We can compare this surgery to planting a seed in the fall that blooms in the spring” explains Dr. Shahmalak, eyebrow transplant specialist, interviewed by Harper’s Bazaar.
Chrissy Teigen: her impressive before / after
Today, Chrissy Teigen’s eyebrow transplant is complete. Indeed, the young woman shared through her Instagram account a photo of her, without makeup. She then appears with long eyebrow hairs. In legend, the mother of the family wrote with humor: “Both a blessing and a curse this eyebrow procedure”. From now on, Chrissy Teigen must tweeze and cut her eyebrows very regularly since they grow just as much as her hair. The result is truly impressive and remarkable.
Chrissy Teigen is then one of the people integrating the grafts perfectly. Generally, 95 to 98% of eyebrow transplants are successful. However, as with any transplant, the body may reject it. According to Dr. Shahmalak, this can be the case when the patient has a disease or skin problems. However, these are contraindications that can be detected when consulting the patient, prior to the operation.
